Elodea, also known as oxygen weed, is a popular aquatic experimental plant often used for photosynthesis investigations in which oxygen release is measured, and, in microscopic studies of cytoplasmic streaming (also known as cyclosis). It is also used in aquaria and ponds for oxygenation and as fish food.

Care
To avoid drying upon arrival, the Elodea should be immersed in cold water and gently pinned down below the surface so that no portions are exposed to air, then left in a bright location out of direct sunlight.
