New Zealand chemist and physicist, the father of nuclear physics, discoverer of the ‘planetary model of the atom’, widely credited with ‘splitting the atom’ in 1917 and leading the first experiment to ‘split the nucleus’. Recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1908.
